'The response has been incredible': Leeds teacher who quit job to care for cats expands business

The business has been a success

A Leeds woman who left her 16-year career as a primary school teacher to follow her passion for cats is expanding her business.

Bridgitte Causer, 55, launched The Cat Butler SW Leeds earlier this year, offering cat owners a home-visit alternative to traditional catteries.

After a successful start covering Morley, Gildersome, Pudsey, Holbeck, Beeston, Armley and Farnley, the business is now expanding into Batley, Birstall, Cleckheaton, Heckmondwike, Gomersal and surrounding communities.

Bridgitte made the decision to leave her career in primary education after 16 years to pursue her passion for caring for cats.

Her business provides daily visits to cats while their owners are away, allowing pets to remain in the familiar surroundings of their own homes.

Since launching, Bridgitte has built up connections with local vets, pet shops and cat owners, with growing demand for an alternative to putting cats into a cattery.

She said: “The response has been absolutely incredible.

“Connecting with fellow pet owners and businesses has shown me just how much demand there is for first-class, stress-free cat care.

“I’m so excited to extend this service to cat owners in Batley, Birstall, Cleckheaton, Gomersal, Heckmondwike and surrounding areas, providing them with total peace of mind and reassurance that their beloved cats are safe and happy at home.”

Bridgitte has also been getting involved in the local community, volunteering with Cats Protection and helping out at fundraising events.

She hopes to continue supporting animal welfare groups as she expands into new areas.

“Supporting rescue work goes hand-in-hand with what I do,” she said.

“I look forward to building strong connections with animal welfare advocates in my new service areas.”

The Cat Butler SW Leeds is aimed at owners who want their cats to be cared for at home while they are away, rather than having to move them into unfamiliar surroundings.

For Bridgitte, the expansion marks another step forward in a business born from a major career change – swapping the classroom for a career spent looking after cats.
