Tributes paid to ‘much-loved’ Morley football coach as Liversedge pub raises over £3,600 for defibrillator
Over £3,600 has been raised for a defibrillator by a Liversedge pub after the sad passing of a “passionate” Morley-based football coach and a “true family man.”
Tributes have flooded in for Jason Liu, who coached at Morley Town AFC. Despite only joining the club less than a year ago, he became a “much-loved character” within the set-up.

Morley Town AFC posted on Facebook: “It is with great sadness we share with you the passing of our coach and friend Jason Liu.
“His love of the game was infectious for all around him and only outweighed by his love for his players, none more so than his son Kiin.
“Jason's passing will leave a big hole in the hearts of many at our club and in the teams he faced, but he will be remembered for his great humour, terrible banter, passion for the game, fierce protection and enthusiasm for his players and his huge smile at seeing his boy play.
“The club and all within would like to express our heartfelt condolences and send our love to his family and friends.”
He was also involved with Morley Glen Juniors, was a “friend to many” at Holbeck Moor JFC, and was a “dedicated” Community Ambassador at the West Riding Football Association.
The West Riding FA posted: “Jason was not only a passionate coach, but also a true family man. His commitment to the game and the people within it made a lasting impact on so many across our football family.
“Our thoughts are with Jason’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him during this incredibly difficult time. He will be greatly missed.”
The Cross Keys pub on Halifax Road in Liversedge, near to the King George V playing fields where Morley Town AFC were taking on West End Park, set up a fundraiser in association with the British Heart Foundation for money towards a life-saving defibrillator.
So far, £3,675 has been raised.
The pub posted on Facebook: “There was an incident at King George’s playing fields and unfortunately there was not a defibrillator in close proximity to the playing fields causing delays in the patient getting the best treatment.
“These specialist kits cost around £2,000 to buy and install. We have set up a JustGiving page but you are also welcome to drop into the pub with cash donations which we will donate straight to the page as well.
“We are so saddened to learn that Jason has passed away. Any additional funds raised will go to Jason’s family. We are also getting a plaque made for the defibrillator in memory of Jason.”

A GoFundMe page has also been set up by Morley Glen Juniors to help and support Jason’s family. For more information click here.
