Wakefield prepares to give Minnie Merriman the send off 'she truly deserves' as hundreds pay respects
‘We are so deeply grateful for the kindness shown so far’
Crowds gathered in Scotland yesterday to pay tribute to a nine-year-old girl, as she began her journey home to Wakefield.
Minni Merriman died at hospital in Dundee after she was found seriously injured at Elliot Industrial Estate in Arbroath in the early hours of Monday, August 3.
Yesterday, Minnie’s family were joined by Arbroath residents who paid their respects as her journey home began.
They included her mother, Laurie.
Bouquets of flowers and toys were left in her memory, while flares were also lit as a tribute to Minnie.

A GofundMe, set up by a close friend of the family, Stevie Walker, has raised more than £8,000 for the family.
In his latest post on the fundraising page, Stevie said: “Bringing her home is an important step as Laurie and the family prepare to give Minnie the send off she truly deserves.
"All donations will first go towards giving Minnie the very best possible funeral and farewell.
"A dignified goodbye that reflects just how deeply she was loved, without adding financial pressure to the family.”
“Minnie’s funeral will be a celebration of her life, honouring her personality, her joy and the special moments that made her so unforgettable.”
He said once funeral costs are covered, any remaining funds will go directly to Laurie and her two other children to help them through the difficult months ahead as they try to rebuild their lives.
"We are so deeply grateful for the kindness shown so far. Every donation and share has helped carry this family through an unimaginable time.”
Christopher Rice, 35, has been charged with her murder and has been remanded in custody after appearing at Forfar Sheriff Court.
