YouTube hit RateMyTakeaway returns with Leeds actor Kelli Hollis as new presenter following Danny Malin exit

Hit YouTube channel RateMyTakeaway has returned with their first video since the departure of host Danny Malin.

The famous show, which for years saw the Barnsley-born former butcher set up his table and chair at various takeaway spots in Leeds and across the world, has returned with a new host.

In the channel’s first video since Malin’s shock departure in September last year, new host, actor Kelli Hollis, visits Cross Gates chippy Oceans.

Leeds-born Hollis is perhaps best known locally for her role as Tina Crabtree in various Channel 4 productions. She later joined the cast of Emmerdale as Ali Spencer from 2011 to 2015, and also appeared as shop owner Yvonne Karib in the Channel 4 comedy-drama Shameless.

In 2024, she moved to Thailand where she reportedly establish a cannabis business following the legalisation of the drug in the country. Earlier this year, she made her return to acting in a guest appearance on Coronation Street following a three-year break from the industry.

Her appointment as chief reviewer on the popular YouTube channel comes after former host and founder, Danny Malin, left the show amid “challenges behind the scenes” last year.

Malin has since launched his new venture, Danny Vs Food, which follows a similar format to his former channel.

However, RateMyTakeaway’s return has drawn criticism from some fans, with several expressing dissatisfaction with the new host. One fan compared the show’s return to BBC favourite Top Gear after the departure of Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond.

Several fans have referenced Hollis’ acting background, with some calling her appointment “shameless.” One commented: “They’re really taking ‘shameless’ literally. She’s an actor, not a food reviewer.”
