Felling work starts at Leeds park as 41 trees are removed over safety concerns
The work is being carried out to ensure the safety of park users
Tree felling has begun at Armley Park in Leeds, with work expected to continue until early next week.
Video from the scene shows trees being removed from the park as part of work by Leeds City Council, with a notice attached to the entrance gate.

A Leeds City Council spokesperson said a recent inspection by its Urban Forestry Section identified 41 trees that require removal, including 38 mature cherry trees.
The council said the trees contain “significant defects” and are close to footpaths and the park's skatepark.
The authority said the work is being carried out to ensure the safety of park users.
The council added: “Following removal, we intend to plant approximately 50 new trees across the park, largely in locations similar to those of the trees being lost.

“The new planting will predominantly comprise ornamental cherry trees along the park's main footpaths.”
In addition, the council will plant apple and pear trees around the perimeter of the bowling green and replace the rowan and birch trees on the Stanningley Road side of the park that are being removed due to poor health.
“All newly planted trees will be supported by a three-year establishment programme, including maintenance and watering, to help ensure successful establishment and long-term growth. Planting is scheduled for the 2026-27 season,” the authority added.
