Nine apartments are planned at 12 Hall Lane in Chapeltown after the building was sold to a property developer.

Leeds City Council has been asked to approve the conversion of the site, which previously contained 25 student beds.

A report by CRL architects said the vacant building had also been used as a residential home and low-cost hotel.

The report said: “Following the closure of the hotel, the site has since been occupied by squatters who have caused a large amount of material damage to the property during their occupation.”

The main stone-built building at the junction with Sholebroke Avenue, and a red brick extension to the rear, are currently boarded up.

The report said one, two and three bedroom flats would provide much-needed housing at the site, part of Chapeltown Conservation Area.

It said: “The design for the proposal is based on the modern space standards, and looks to make use of a vacant building, providing accommodation and flats in a range of different sizes to the local area.”

A full planning application is out for consultation until July 21.

The report said: “The proposal will be a timely example of adapting a presently vacant and anti social building, occupying it and bringing it up to modern building standards in the process.”
