Plans unveiled to transform former bank in Leeds suburb into a new bar

A new bar could be coming to Cross Gates

A former bank in east Leeds could re-open as a bar if a licence application is approved by the council.

Permission is sought for a bar licence for the old NatWest branch on Station Road in Cross Gates.

Concerns have been raised over potential noise and public disorder if The Bank is granted permission to open.

Two letters of objection were received by Leeds City Council ahead of a licensing hearing on Tuesday.

One said: “The noise really does travel. Then you have all the screeching on the streets. Arguing and fighting that happens every weekend.”

The former bank at the junction of Austhorpe Road and Station Road was shut down last year in a wave of branch closures by the company.

Leeds City Council approved a planning application for change of use and alterations to the site last month. Five letters of support of the licensing application were also received by the council.

The applicant said measures would be in place to prevent noise and public disorder.

The application said: “The operation as a bar with nibbles is appropriate to the area and will promote all licensing objectives, while minimising disturbance to residents.”

Councillors will have the option of granting or refusing the licence, or approving it with additional conditions at the Leeds Civic Hall hearing.
