Former Leeds council office will be transformed into a new family home

The building is currently empty

A former council office in Leeds will be turned into a family home after planning permission was approved.

A five-bedroom council house will be created at the former Gipton Housing Office site on Coldcotes Drive.

The building was occupied by the council up until 2019, when the service was moved to the Compton Centre in Harehills.

A planning report said the site was previously used as a health centre and was currently vacant.

It said: “The application site lies within an established residential estate in Gipton with ready access to nearby bus services, a neighbourhood shopping parade and green space facilities at Harehills Park.”

Leeds City Council applied for permission to convert both floors of the building.

The report said change-of-use planning permission would not lead to a loss of council or health services in the area.

The former Gipton Clinic ceased operating from the site in 2011.

The report said: “This property formed council offices for Housing Leeds until December 2019.

“The property is currently empty and the proposal is to refurbish and convert this property into a family home for social housing.

“The property has parking to the front of the building, which is off the road in parking bays.”
