Leeds City Council gave planning permission for six detached houses near Topcliffe Lane in Morley.

Morley Town Council and ten nearby householders raised fears over road safety and potential disruption during building work at the site.

A further objection raising similar concerns had been received when the council’s West Plans Panel met on Thursday.

Councillors were told the application was brought to the panel because the land was originally allocated for employment use.

Conservative councillor Dan Cohen said he supported plans to build on the site, near historic mill buildings.

Coun Cohen, who represents Alwoodley, said: “A perfectly sensible application, making use of a corner of land which would otherwise have no particular use.”

Planning documents said the application for outline permission would consent in principle for the scheme.

Further design details would have to be agreed as part of a reserved matters application.

A design report by Domus Architecture said the two and three-bedroom homes would be close to the M62 motorway and transport links to Leeds City Centre.

Councillors agreed to grant permission in a unanimous vote at the Leeds Civic Hall meeting.
