Tesco’s plans for a new store in Headingley look set to go ahead after planning and licensing permissions were secured.
The supermarket chain will install a new shop front at a retail unit in Headingley Central on Otley Road.
Leeds City Council gave consent for external alterations to the vacant site on the route of the famous Otley Run pub crawl.
A council planning officer’s report said the scheme would be in keeping with the appearance of the shopping centre.
It said: “The alterations will improve the accessibility of the unit and is of appropriate design.
“It will also not adversely impact on the local highway network.”
Tesco previously faced public opposition after applying for an alcohol licence for the new store.
More than 30 people objected, raising concerns more alcohol sales would add to unruly behaviour on the pub crawl.
The licence was granted following a hearing in March after Tesco agreed to reduce the hours of alcohol sales to 7am-11pm.
A licensing sub-committee was told measures including CCTV, staff training and a “think 25” policy would be in place.
The Tesco Express would not serve anybody in fancy dress or thought to be taking part in the Otley Run.
The council also granted advertising consent for illuminated signs on the new store.
