Leeds restaurant gets later opening hours approved - despite concerns over noise

A Leeds restaurant has been allowed later serving hours after the council was satisfied it would not disturb nearby householders.

Zak’s, on Woodsley Road, was granted permission to provide late night refreshment at a council licensing hearing.

Councillors were told the premises had agreed to reduce the hours applied for to 1pm during the week and 1.30pm on Friday and Saturday.

Operator Mohsin Sultan said there had been no complaints against the restaurant since he began running it in 2018.

He told a licensing sub-committee: “We have had no issues with any neighbours.”

Deryck Piper, of Little Woodhouse Community Association, said there were concerns over noise if later opening was allowed on week days.

He was worried over the sound of car engines and doors slamming from delivery drivers.

Mr Piper said “It is in a very residential area. If you’re trying to sleep it kind of gets to you.”

Mr Sultan said most late night customers were taxi drivers who drove quiet electric vehicles. He told the hearing: “They don’t make that much noise.”

Councillors granted the premises licence application following the hearing at Leeds Civic Hall.
