The retail chain has submitted a planning application to build a new outlet at the Moor Allerton Centre.

Buildings in part of the centre off King Lane would be demolished to make way for the new supermarket.

Plans are being considered by Leeds City Council after a public consultation was carried out by the company.

The 2,200 sqm store will include a warehouse, bakery and 187 parking spaces if the scheme goes ahead.

A design report said Moor Allerton Community Hub, a council-run library and advice centre, would be retained and upgraded.

It said: “A public realm area is proposed to the front of the library to provide an amenity space for local people and create an attractive landscaped setting.

“The reconfigured car park will include new tree planting within the car park, and a comprehensive landscaped buffer around the edges.”

The report said the site was near bus stops linking the centre to Alwoodley, Moortown and Leeds city centre.

It said: “The site benefits from excellent cycle connectivity due to its location near to the existing dedicated cycleway which runs along the ring road.”

Carbon emissions from the store would be minimised with the installation of solar panels on the roof, the report said.

It said: “A rapid electric vehicle charging facility within the car park that will serve two parking bays.”

Council officers are considering a full planning application which is out for consultation until June 18.
