'Exceptional addition': Major milestone for new East Leeds state of the art leisure centre

A specialist contractor has been appointed to complete the design stage of a new state of the art leisure centre in east Leeds.

Following the design phase, construction is expected to begin this summer and last approximately 18 months.

Proposed indoor facilities include swimming pools, a fitness gym, studios, community spaces, and a soft play and activity zone.

The surrounding outdoor environment will also be transformed, featuring a new children’s play area, skate park and pump track, artificial grass pitch, padel and tennis courts, along with extensive landscaping to create an attractive park‑like setting for residents and visitors.

Coun Salma Arif, executive member for Adult Social Care, Active Lifestyles and Culture, said: “Providing high quality, accessible leisure centres is fundamental to our wider Health and Wellbeing ambitions and to our mission to help everyone in Leeds move more, every day.

“By redeveloping this facility and tailoring it to the needs of local communities, we are helping more people build physical activity into their daily lives.

“That means improved physical and mental health, greater social connection, and more opportunities for families to enjoy active time together.

“The new Fearnville Wellbeing Centre will be an exceptional addition to the council’s estate of leisure centres and provide a much needed welcoming and modern wellbeing facility in East Leeds.”
