Major road improvements after Lidl scheme approved
Improvements will be carried out in Yeadon under an agreement between the council and the supermarket chain

Improvements will be carried out on Haworth Lane in Yeadon under an agreement between the council and the supermarket chain.
A mini-roundabout and zebra crossing are among the planned works after planning permission was granted for the store.
A Leeds City Council report said: “The proposed zebra crossing which will enable pedestrian connections from the development towards the centre of Yeadon.
“The proposed mini roundabout will reduce speed on Haworth Lane and improve the junction with Queensway.”
Plans for the Lidl store on the site of a former fitness centre were first approved in 2023.
Lidl then sought to change the position of the new store, but its application to revise the scheme was refused by council planners over the impact on nearby homes.
The company then appealed and a planning inspector ruled in Lidl’s favour in January this year.
The appeal decision said work on the new supermarket should start by March 23.
The council report said the removal of a redundant bus stop and footpath widening was among the highway improvements.
The authority would negotiate a legal agreement with Lidl to enable the work to go ahead.
The emergency services and West Yorkshire Combined Authority raised no objections after being consulted on the scheme, set to be paid for by the developer.
The report said: “The proposed highway works would be fully implemented by February 2027.”
