New Leeds housing development could be approved - despite more than 40 objections

A new Leeds housing development could be approved - despite more than 40 people raising objections.

Leeds City Council was asked for planning permission to redevelop a site off Alder Drive in Pudsey.

Up to nine houses will be built if it is approved by a panel of councillors meeting on Thursday (March 26).

Conservative councillor Andrew Carter objected to the scheme, along with 42 people living nearby.

Concerns included road safety and the impact on green belt land which forms part of the site.

A planning officer’s report said: “Coun Carter considers the development is overly intensive and harmful to neighbouring properties at Alder Drive and Alder Garth, out of keeping with local character.”

The report said two letters had also been received in support of the scheme, saying it would help meet a need for new housing.

The report said: “Overall, the proposed development is considered acceptable when assessed against the relevant national and local planning policies.”

The report said a section of green belt land at the site would only be affected by a new access road.

The project would include gardens, parking spaces and electric vehicle charging points.

The council’s South and West plans panel will discuss the application at a meeting at Leeds Civic Hall.

It is recommended that the scheme is then delegated to the city’s chief planning officer for possible approval.
