Plans approved to build supported living flats in east Leeds estate

All the apartments would be classed as affordable housing

A block of flats for vulnerable adults can be built on an east Leeds estate after plans were agreed with the council.

Supported living charity Catholic Care was granted planning permission for seven apartments in Seacroft.

A three-storey block of one-bedroom flats will be built on Foundry Mill Mount, next to an existing block of 10 flats owned by the organisation.

A Leeds City Council report said plans had been revised since a similar scheme was given the go-ahead in 2023.

It said: “This latest updated version is considered compatible with this residential area and will stand amongst other similar residential care facilities.”

Catholic Care said the flats would be designed to help vulnerable people live independently in their own homes.

A design report said: “Foundry Mill Mount is located within easy access to local shops, together with supermarkets including a 24-hour superstore and essential amenities in nearby Killingbeck.

“Buses are regularly available to Leeds City Centre and beyond.”

All the apartments would be classed as affordable housing, with rents charged in line with Local Housing Allowance.

The report said: “This scheme will provide communal facilities to enhance the community feel, so the scheme will feel part of and not isolated from the local community, thereby enhancing the feel of inclusion.

“There will be an emphasis around promoting independence in a person’s own tenancy.”

No objections were received to the planning application, approved on July 22.
