Pizza shop refused permission to serve food until 5am over noise concerns

A pizza shop has been refused permission to serve food until 5am after concerns were raised over noise and public nuisance.

Papa John’s, on Belle Vue Road in Woodhouse, asked Leeds City Council for an extension to its serving hours.

A licensing sub-committee heard the later hours could disturb people living in flats above the shop.

Official objections were raised by the council’s environmental health and licensing departments.

Councillors were told the business, part of a chain of takeaways, already had a licence for late night refreshment until midnight, Sunday to Thursday and 2am at weekends.

Papa John’s previously applied to serve until 5am when first granted a premises licence in 2023. The hours were reduced in agreement with the premises operator.

Environmental health officer Vanessa Holroyd told a licensing hearing: “I am concerned that granting this variation would cause nuisance.

“There is likely to be an increase in late-night activity, customers arriving possibly in groups, hanging around.”

Concerns included noise from delivery vehicles and extractor equipment at the shop, next to a Morrisons supermarket which opens until 11pm.

The premises operator, Magnum Trading Leeds Ltd, was not represented at the Civic Hall hearing.
