Leeds City Council granted a full planning application after the high street bank was closed down in April last year,

A planning officer’s report said: “The application seeks to re-use the building as a mixed use retail unit with flats behind and above.

“The development will bring back into use a vacant building and thus will contribute to the life and vitality of the location.”

Two upstairs flats and a separate ground floor apartment would be created as part of plans for the site.

The bank was shut down as part of a national programme of branch closures by NatWest.

A cash machine at the site at 52 Harrogate Road was also removed.

A planning report seeking a change of use of the building said: ”The proposal is to decommission the building as a bank and leave it in a good state of repair for selling on or returning to the landlord where appropriate.”
