Plans to demolish former Leeds health centre and build seven new supported living flats
Former GP surgery could make way for seven supported living homes under new plans
A former village health centre could be demolished to make way for supported living accommodation.
Leeds City Council has been asked to approve plans to turn the former Swillington Health Practice into seven flats.
A planning report said the clinic on Hillcrest Close had been closed since last year, when the NHS transferred its services to nearby Oulton Medical Centre and Marsh Street Surgery.
The report, commissioned by applicant Cambridge Green Ltd, said the development would offer homes for people with disabilities.
It said: “The existing building is no longer required as a medical facility. The has been no GP based at the site since early 2020.
“The practice carried out a local consultation exercise prior to the decision to close.”
Accommodation for an on-site supervisor would also be provided as part of the scheme.
Residents would be able to meet each other in a central shared space and have access to gardens at the rear.
The report said the redevelopment would be sensitively designed to blend in with its surroundings.
It said: “The building is a functional 20th century structure and is of no architectural merit.
“The proposed use of the site for supported living accommodation, with on-site supervision, will provide a new facility to serve the needs of the local community within easy walking distance of local facilities.”
Leeds City Council is considering a full planning application, out for consultation until September 30.
