Plans unveiled to upgrade Leeds playground with climbing frames, slides and trampoline
The current playground has served the village for over three decades
Children’s play facilities could be upgraded in an east Leeds village if plans are agreed with the city council.
Planning permission is sought for an extension to an existing playground on Jack Heap’s Field in Barwick-in-Elmet.
New climbing structures, slides, swings and a trampoline could be installed if Leeds City Council approves the plans.

A design report said the playground on Welfare Avenue had served the village for 30 years and most of the equipment had reached the end of its life.
It said: “The proposal will provide a modern, inclusive and accessible play environment that better meets the needs of local children and families, while retaining the site’s established recreational function.”
The layout of the new facilities was designed to boost physical activity and social interaction for different age groups.
Tree planting around the playground’s perimeter was planned as part of the project, along with bicycle and scooter parking.
The report said: “The playground is located within a well-established area of public open space that is easily accessible from surrounding residential areas by foot, bicycle and scooter.
“Existing pedestrian access arrangements will be retained and the improved facility will continue to be freely available for public use.
“The provision of bicycle and scooter parking near the entrance will encourage sustainable travel and support easy access for local residents.”
The council is considering a full planning application which is out for consultation until October 7.
The report said: “The proposal represents a sensitive and appropriate enhancement of an established community recreation facility.
“It responds positively to the character and function of Jack Heap’s Field, provides improved and more inclusive play opportunities and incorporates landscape and biodiversity enhancements.”
