This former Leeds library sold for £482k - now its back on the market for £195k

A former Leeds library, which was sold off by the council, has gone up for auction for almost £200,000.

Crossgates Library was sold by the city council in February 2024 after being deemed surplus to requirements.

Library services were moved into nearby Crossgates Shopping Centre after a community effort to buy the building was unsuccessful.

The building fetched £482,000 after it was first sold.

Now Pugh Auctions is again marketing the property, this time with a guide price of £195,000.

The auction website said: “Whilst the building is not listed, it is considered to have local heritage value and is a non-designated heritage asset.

“The property is sold with vacant possession.”

The library site had been vacant since May 2022 after the council said it was too big for the library service and alternative uses could not be found.

The auction site said it was close to a JD Wetherspoon pub and a Halifax bank. It said the building was in need of renovations.

The site said: “The property enjoys a prominent position on Farm Road and the roundabout in Cross Gates, which is allocated as a designated retail centre.”

Bids for the property are set to open on March 24.
