Village hall could become Leeds’ newest wedding venue under fresh plans

Couples could get married in an east Leeds village hall after a parish council proposed to use it as a wedding venue.

Great Preston Village Hall could host weddings and civil partnerships if plans are agreed with the city council.

A change of use of the Preston Lane building is proposed to help raise extra funds for its upkeep.

Great and Little Preston Parish Council, which owns the building, said the hall was already used for community events and private bookings.

An application to Leeds City Council said: “The costs of the building are high and so to secure it’s future, we require additional income.

“One way of securing this is to extend our offering to allow people to be married and hold their function on site.

“Therefore we would like to secure a marriage and civil partnership licence in order for lawful weddings to be held in the village hall or grounds.”

The planning application must first be approved in order to apply for a weddings licence.

Change-of-use permission would allow continued use as a community hall and additional use as a wedding venue.

The full planning application is out for consultation until July 9. It said: “There will be no physical changes to the site.”
