Wakefield football club to get new sports pavilion to replace ‘outdated’ facilities
A football club is set to get a new sports pavilion to replace it’s ‘outdated’ changing rooms.
West End Terriers FC has been granted permission for the new facility at its ground on Cemetery Lane, in Hemsworth.
Plans submitted on behalf of the club said the purpose-built pavilion would strengthen the club’s role as a “key community asset.”
The document said: “The replacement facility will enable the football club to retain its current location, which is considered accessible and highly sustainably located.

“Without the improved facility, the club may be forced to consider relocate.
“The provision of a larger, dedicated clubhouse for the football club and its teams, as well as the ability to utilise the facility for wider public use, will benefit the club and local community.”
Wakefield Council planners gave the go-ahead for the 22m long structure to be built in place of an existing building.
The statement added: “Improving access to high-quality facilities in Hemsworth will encourage greater participation in physical activity, supporting both youth and adult football in the community, as well as providing a facility publicly accessible building for community use.

“Beyond its sporting benefits, the new facility will strengthen community ties by offering a safe and inclusive space for events, meetings and other club activities.”
A total of 17 members of the public supported the application, including local councillors.
Those in favour said the development represented an “investment in the community.”
The council received three objection letters raising concerns over an incraese in traffic at the site and an impact on access to to the town’s cemetery, which neighbours the site.
A council officer’s report said: “The proposed development is considered acceptable with regards to its impacts upon the historic environment, design, amenity, highway safety, ecology, drainage and other matters.”
