The Queens Hotel Leeds awarded prestigious Green Key Accreditation for environmental commitment
The Queens Hotel in Leeds city centre has been awarded the prestigious Green Key Accreditation for its dedication to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
The hotel said the accreditation highlights its commitment to eco-friendly practices, from energy efficiency to waste reduction, ensuring its guests can enjoy a “luxurious and sustainable” stay.
Green Key certificates are considered a leading international eco-label for the tourism sector and are awarded to establishments that meet rigorous criteria in environmental management, staff engagement, and guest education.

To receive the Green Key, the Queens successfully met 13 key criteria, including waste management, water conservation, and sustainable sourcing.
Sunil Lad, leader of the hotel’s Green Team, which has worked closely with Mission Net Zero to implement and monitor these practices, said the Green Key marks a “fantastic” milestone for the hotel.
Lad added: “[It is] a real testament to the teamwork and commitment shown across all departments.
“We’ve worked hard to embed sustainability into our daily operations, so this recognition reinforces our belief that sustainability isn’t just an initiative, it’s part of who we are and how we operate at The Queens.”
Earlier this year, The Queens Hotel was named amongst the 100 best places to stay in the UK by The Sunday Times.
Describing The Queens, the panel praised its grandeur and timeless appeal: “Big, bold and stately, the Queens holds court over the centre of Leeds like the grande dame she was intended to be when built in 1937.
“Back then, with her art deco lines, pearly-grey stone façade, polished wood and mirrored interiors, she was the place to stay.
“Fast-forward several decades and an expensive buff and shine has brought her zipping into the 21st century without losing an iota of old-world glamour.”
