Upon arrival, fire crews discovered a blaze involving a carpet in a second-floor mezzanine room measuring approximately 20 metres by 5 metres.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the flames using a hose reel jet, before using four positive pressure ventilation fans to clear heavy smoke from the building.

An ambulance was requested for an adult male suffering from smoke inhalation.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that smoke alarms inside the property had actuated during the incident, but has not yet published the official cause of the fire.

Three fire engines - two from Leeds and one from Hunslet - attended the scene.
