Topshop makes return to Leeds high street - five years after closing its doors

A high street favourite has made a surprise return to Leeds - just not in the way you might have expected.

Topshop closed the doors to its flagship store in Trinity Centre just over five years ago. It marked the end of an era for shoppers - take a look back through memories of the store here.

However, in a dramatic turn of events, the brand is making a comeback via John Lewis. Shoppers will once again be able to buy Topshop clothes, just inside the Victoria Gate department store now.

Michelle Wilson, managing director of Topshop, said: “Today is about making it easier for customers to access the Topshop and Topman pieces they love.

“From our cult denim to new‑season footwear, you can see it, feel it and take it home the same day.

“Partnering with John Lewis brings Topshop back to high streets across the UK with the level of service our customers expect.”

Topshop clothes will be available from the John Lewis in Leeds from today (February 17). The brand is set to appear in all of the company’s 32 department stores - with Topman returning in seven of the stores.

The brand closed its store in Trinity back in February 2021, after its owner Arcadia collapsed into administration. It was snapped up by current owner Asos who sold Topshop products online.

However, shoppers will now be able to peruse the clothing in person once again. Topshop and Topman products will also be available via John Lewis’s website as part of the launch.

Mr Ruis, managing director of John Lewis, added: “This moment marks a significant acceleration of our fashion ambition at John Lewis.

“To be the exclusive home of an iconic brand like Topshop, sat alongside other exciting new brands, signals our commitment to be the definitive style authority on the British high street.”
