In June, Leeds Bradford Airport celebrated the opening of their new £100 million terminal expansion, while the three footbridges crossing the city’s crucial Armley Gyratory junction were finally completed.
There was also change on Leeds's railway network, with the rail bridges over Osmondthorpe Lane and Station Road, Cross Gates both being replaced.
So as we say goodbye to 2025, here are 10 of the completed transport changes that have transformed Leeds this year...
1. Osmondthorpe Lane rail bridge replaced
Over Christmas and New Year 2024, a team of over 110 engineers replaced the old Osmondthorpe Lane rail bridge. The new structure, which weighs 200 tonnes, was moved into position in one piece by a self-propelled modular transport (SPMT) vehicle. The new, stronger structure will enable tracks to be moved into a better position and allow faster and longer trains to run. | Network Rail
2. A58M average speed cameras
Average speed cameras, positioned along the A58M inner ring road, running from the North Street overpass to the former Yorkshire Evening Post building, went live in February 2025. The cameras aim to “control speed and improve road safety” along one of the city’s busiest routes. | YEP

3. Weaver Network launched
In May, West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin officially launched the Weaver Network. The branding will be gradually introduced, starting with existing planned replacements at bus stops and stations before it is applied to buses when they are taken under local control from 2027. | WYCA
