Commuters to expect delays on A61 East Street after crash earlier this afternoon
Drivers are facing severe delays on a major Leeds city centre route this afternoon following a crash on the A61 East Street near the Royal Armouries
Drivers are facing significant delays on a major route into Leeds city centre this afternoon following a road traffic collision.
The A61 East Street was partially blocked eastbound following a crash at the junction with Bow Street, located right by the Royal Armouries and Leeds Dock.
The incident, first reported at 12:23 PM, has seen emergency services descend on the scene, with police officers actively managing the flow of traffic while dealing with the immediate aftermath of the collision.
West Yorkshire Police commented: “This was a non-injury collision and looks like the road is now reopened."

But heavy congestion and slow-moving queues are building up back along the dual carriageway and surrounding commuter routes as a result of the incident, according to AA Roadwatch.
Because the incident sits on a crucial arterial path connecting the city centre to Richmond Hill, Cross Green, and the outbound links for the M621 at junction four, traffic is building up across the South Bank district.
The ongoing lane restrictions are also causing headaches for public transport users. Local bus services are experiencing mounting delays, with the First Leeds 62 route—which stops directly at Bow Street- facing disruption, alongside several major Arriva services running into the nearby Leeds Bus Station from Wakefield and Castleford, such as the 110, 168, and 446 lines.
