Engineering work between Leeds and Huddersfield to cause significant train disruption
Upcoming rail engineering work is expected to cause “significant disruption” between Huddersfield and Leeds.
Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) rail engineering works will be undertaken between Huddersfield and Leeds throughout May and June. In addition, trains will not call at Huddersfield on weekends in April.
These closures will enable the safe delivery of critical infrastructure upgrades, including track and drainage renewals, bridge works, signalling improvements, and significant station enhancements along the route between Huddersfield and Leeds.

This series of upgrade works will help deliver faster, more frequent services on a greener, more reliable railway.
Paul Sumner, TRU Senior Sponsor, said: “We understand the ongoing work will cause some disruption, and we’d like to thank everybody for their patience throughout this period.
“The Transpennine Route Upgrade will bring major benefits, including more trains, more seats and faster, more reliable journeys across the North. These improvements, from electrifying the route to upgrading stations and modernising signalling, will help create a greener, more dependable railway that better serves local communities for years to come.”
Wherever possible, customers will remain on trains, using diversionary routes or services running as close as possible to the closure areas. However, journey times will change, and some customers may need to use rail replacement buses for part of their trip.
Brighouse station will be used as a rail and bus interchange location for those travelling to or from Huddersfield during affected periods. Customers are being urged to check their journey in advance at nationalrail.co.uk before travelling.
