What is happening?

The M62 motorway will be closed westbound, between junction 29 (Lofthouse) and junction 28 (Tingley), for a full weekend to allow for essential waterproofing work to take place on Ardsley railway bridge.

Carrying around 66,000 vehicles a day over the railway line, the crucial route will be closed from 9pm on Friday, May 29 to 5am on Monday, June 1.

What work is taking place?

The waterproofing system needs renewing to prevent future deterioration and keep the structure safe, and a full weekend closure will allow National Highways engineers to complete the work more quickly and safely.

Removal and replacement of bituminous surfacing and deck re-waterproofing previously took place on Ardsley railway bridge during a full weekend closure last summer.

What diversion routes are in place?

Official diversion routes:

  • M1 → M621 → A6110 → A653
  • M1 → M621 → M62 J27

What has National Highways said about the closure?

Motorists are being urged to plan ahead, and check the latest information as closures can change at short notice.

While the work has been planned for one of the drier times of the year, it is weather dependent and may need to be rescheduled due to poor conditions.
