Located outside the old Repair Lab shop, the new cameras will enforce prohibited right turns from the A65 Abbey Road into Bridge Road and from Bridge Road onto the A65 Commercial Road. The move has been welcomed by a number of YEP readers.

Grace Charlotte Roberts said: “Excellent. I've almost been hit here multiple times as a pedestrian crossing when green man by people turning right when they shouldn't.”

Suggesting other areas in need of cameras, Steve Nock said: “They also needed to do Kirkstall Road into Kirkstall Lane, same junction and loads do it there,” while Chris Brooks added: “Need them at the junction near the Hyde Park pub.”

Linda Wood said: “Good should also have one on traffic going from Leeds Lane into shopping precinct.”

The YEP understands that turning conflicts and red-light violations are the primary cause of driver error collisions at the junction, where Savins Mill Way and Commercial Road connect with nearby Kirkstall Lane and Kirkstall Road.

Leeds City Council confirmed that the installation comes following a successful application to the Department for Transport for relevant powers. The improvements form part of their Leeds Safe Roads Vision Zero 2040 Strategy.
