Pepper Road railway bridge in Leeds to be partially demolished as part of 'improvement project'

Pepper Road Bridge will be partially demolished as part of an improvement project.

A railway bridge in Leeds is set to be partially demolished and rebuilt to allow for improvement works.

Pepper Road Bridge in Hunslet will be closed for a period of six months from May 5 through to November after plans were originally put in place to replace a damaged bridge plate.

The road will be closed throughout, with a diversion clearly signposted, and the main programme of work is scheduled to take place during weekday daytime hours (7am to 6pm weekdays) and Saturday nights (9pm to 6am), to minimise disruption to rail passengers.

Network Rail, who are responsible for most of the country’s railway network, are writing to residents and more details will be released in due course.

The YEP understands that the closure is not related to the ongoing Transpennine Route Upgrade works, which saw the Station Road Bridge at Cross Gates railway station reconstructed to allow for electrification of the line linking Manchester, Leeds and York.

Austhorpe Lane Bridge in Cross Gates and the A656 Ridge Road Bridge, between Garforth and Micklefield, are currently being rebuilt as part of the TRU’s programme of improvements to deliver more frequent, faster, greener trains on a better, more reliable railway.
