'We're sorry': Network Rail's apology after power outage causes mass cancellations at Leeds station
Network Rail has issued an apology after a power outage caused widespread disruption to services at Leeds station.
Hundreds of commuters were left stranded yesterday afternoon (Sunday, November 30) after all services were either cancelled or delayed.
A power outage nearby led to signalling problems with huge numbers of trains being cancelled and people left stranded.
Footage captured by Erin Rivers, who was trying to get home after completing the Leeds Abbey Dash, showed crowds of people gathered at the central station awaiting updates from staff.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: “At around 10.50am on November 30, a defective cable caused a signalling failure affecting several platforms at Leeds station.
“Engineers attended site and restored power by 1.20pm. Some services were cancelled or delayed. We’re sorry to anyone whose journey was affected.”
Disruption remained in place until around 10pm on Sunday night.
The problem was compounded by problems reported at Leeds Bus Station where a fire alarm led to its temporary closure, but that was resolved a short time later.
Those who chose not to travel or were heavily delayed are entitled to refunds/compensation. See full details below.
