Massive delays expected at Leeds City Station after an incident on the London to Peterborough line

Leeds rail passengers are facing severe cancellations and major timetable delays this afternoon following a serious emergency incident that has blocked all lines out of London King's Cross.

Rail passengers travelling to and from Leeds are being warned to expect severe disruptions, cancellations, and long delays this afternoon following two separate incidents on the network.

The main artery to the capital has been brought to a halt after a person was hit by a train between Hitchin and Welwyn Garden City.

Emergency services are currently on the scene dealing with the incident, forcing National Rail to completely close all lines between London King's Cross and Peterborough.

Because the East Coast Main Line is entirely blocked on that southern section, long-distance operators running direct services into Leeds - including London North Eastern Railway (LNER) - are seeing heavy cancellations and major backlog delays across their fleets.

Lines between the two points are now open, but network officials are still advising passengers to check timetables before making their way to the platform.

A signalling system fault at York station is forcing all passing trains to run at a significantly reduced speed. The technical issue is causing 20-to-30-minute delays on services moving through the hub, heavily impacting CrossCountry, Northern, TransPennine Express, and LNER routes that connect to Leeds.

Passengers whose journeys are delayed by 15 minutes or more are being reminded to retain their physical or digital tickets in order to claim compensation through the standard Delay Repay scheme via their respective train operator's website.

For real-time arrival and departure updates at Leeds Station, commuters can check the live travel boards on the National Rail Enquiries website or use the official LNER customer assist channels.
