LNER issues travel warning as temperatures in Leeds set to reach up to 35°C

LNER has advised against travel on Wednesday and Thursday due to a rare red weather warning for extreme heat

LNER has warned railway passengers not to travel on Wednesday and Thursday (June 24-25), with a rare red weather warning for extreme heat in place across parts of the country.

Those travelling by rail this week are also advised to check before they travel, as the hot weather will lead to short-notice changes to train services.

For safety reasons, speed restrictions may be introduced, which may increase journey times and result in a reduced number of services, with LNER strongly encouraging customers to travel on alternative, cooler dates.

Temperatures in Leeds are forecast to hit up to 35°C this week, with an amber heat warning coming into force for Yorkshire and the Humber at midnight on Wednesday until noon on Thursday.

A rare red weather warning has been issued for parts of the Midlands and the south of England.

LNER said that some ticket restrictions have already been lifted for customers travelling on the East Coast Main Line up to Friday (June 26), “to help make their journeys more comfortable”.

Those with tickets for Wednesday and Thursday can use them to travel on LNER services up to and including Tuesday, June 30, at no extra cost. Tickets can also be refunded in full from the point of purchase.
