New traffic cameras installed at Kirkstall junction to enforce prohibited right turns
New traffic cameras are being installed at a crucial junction in Leeds.
Work is progressing to install brand-new traffic cameras at Savins Mill Way, overlooking the busy Commercial Road junction in Kirkstall.

Designed to improve safety, reduce congestion, and keep traffic flowing smoothly along one of the city’s busiest routes, the cameras will also enforce two prohibited right turns.
A Leeds City Council spokesperson said: “Following a successful application by the council to the Department for Transport for relevant powers, new traffic cameras were recently installed at the junction to help enforce two prohibited right turns.
“These improvements align with our Leeds Safe Roads Vision Zero 2040 Strategy, which aims to eliminate fatalities and serious injuries caused by collisions.”
Located outside the old Repair Lab shop, the junction’s new traffic cameras will enforce prohibited right turns from the A65 Abbey Road into Bridge Road and from Bridge Road onto the A65 Commercial Road.
Turning conflicts and red-light violations are the primary cause of driver error collisions at the junction, where Savins Mill Way and Commercial Road connect with nearby Kirkstall Lane and Kirkstall Road.
