Full road closures and bus diversions for Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon 2026 - everything you need to know

Runners will once again hit the streets of Leeds tomorrow for the Rob Burrow Marathon 2026.

Over 13,000 participants are expected to take part today (Sunday, May 10), in the hugely popular event that was established to honour the rugby league legend.

In co-operation with Leeds City Council and West Yorkshire Metro, key routes will be closed for the duration of the event and a number of city bus routes will be affected from the start of service until approximately 5.30pm.

Otley Bus Station will be closed from 9am until approximately 3pm. Here’s everything you need to know....

Where and when will the event start?

Starting at 9am, the marathon will start and end at AMT Headingley Rugby Stadium, with runners following a circular route that initially winds around Woodhouse Moor before striking out for Adel, Lawnswood, Bramhope, Pool in Wharfedale and Otley.

The Leeds Half Marathon, which is also take place from 10am on May 10, will use much of the same route.

Who does the marathon raise money for?

Delivered by Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All in partnership with City Council, the 2026 Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon promises to be one of the most inspiring events in the city’s sporting calendar - with runners are encouraged to fundraise for a charity close to their own hearts.

Event partner charities include Leeds Hospitals Charity, MND Association, Leeds North and West Foodbank, Candlelighters, Leeds Rhinos Foundation, Happy Days, Macmillan Cancer Support, My Name’5 Doddie, the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, and St Gemma’s Hospice.

What road closures will be in place?

In Headingley, parts of St Michael’s Lane and Newport View will be closed to vehicles from 4am on May 10. Further closures will start to kick in on Cardigan Road, Beechwood Crescent (St Annes Drive direction only), Kirkstall Lane/North Lane and the Cardigan Road-St Michael’s Grove section of St Michael’s Lane from 6am. Closures of other selected roads in Headingley will be implemented from 7.30am.

Closures on the stretch of the A660 that runs between Headingley and Pool Bank New Road – via Lawnswood Roundabout and Bramhope – will then come into force between 8am and 8.30am. Further closures will take effect from 9am around Pool in Wharfedale and Otley. Emergency service access will be maintained at all times.
