Leeds City Council is set to upgrade its traffic calming measures on Green Lane and Cross Green Lane in Halton.

Despite the measures already in place, safety was at risk as drivers routinely breached the speed restrictions, a council report said.

It said: “The latest speed survey shows the mean speed of vehicles to be over 25mph and therefore amendments to the existing traffic calming are required.”

Road “cushions” already installed in the area would be replaced with raised sections of road called speed tables.

The report said: “The proposal of extra features along Green Lane will reduce speeding vehicles travelling from Station Road onto Green Lane.

“This was raised following feedback from residents.”

The £35,000 scheme, set to be in place by July this year, was designed to enforce speed limits set by West Yorkshire Police.

The report said: “Without intervention, the road will continue to require disproportionate police resource to enforce, and remain a safety concern for residents.”

The council received two formal objections from people living nearby.

One said the traffic calming measures would cause damage to vehicle wheels and suspensions.

Another said the Green Lane speed limit should be 30mph, with the 20mph reserved for side roads.

Both objections were formally over-ruled by council highways officers.

The report said: “The scheme’s implementation is subject to resolving the objections and the proposals are anticipated to be completed by July 2026.”
