Great British Rail Sale 2026: Millions of train tickets on sale for 50% off or more with routes going through Yorkshire - but you’ll need to be quick
Northern customers are being advised to plan ahead to make the most of million of discounted train tickets - including routes going through Yorkshire.
Customers will be able to book reduced advance fares for travel between January 13 and March 25, 2026.
The period of time that customers can take advantage of these discounts is from January 6 to 12, 2026, with many journeys starting or finishing on Northern’s network included in the sale.
The nationwide promotion will see more than three million tickets made available, with savings of 50 per cent or more on a wide range of routes.
Discounted fares will be available through usual ticket-buying channels, including online, via apps, at stations and ticket offices.
Some examples of the deals available on Northern’s train services include:
- Manchester Piccadilly to Manchester Airport - £1.20 (usual price is £2.90, saving 59 per cent)
- Liverpool Lime Street to Wigan North Western - £1.60 (usual price is £3.60, saving 57 per cent)
- Newcastle to Middlesbrough - £2 (usual price is £5.20, saving 62 per cent)
- Blackpool North to Manchester Piccadilly - £3.50 (usual price is £7.90, saving 56 per cent)
- Bolton to Manchester Piccadilly - £1 (usual price is £2.50, saving 60 per cent)
Commercial and customer director for Northern, Alex Hornby, said: “Rail is already one of the best and most affordable ways to get around the North and beyond, and the return of the Great British Rail Sale gives our customers a brilliant opportunity to save money while enjoying more days out and trips further afield.
“With millions of discounted tickets available and fares as low as £1 between some of the key northern towns and cities, it’s the perfect time to plan ahead and make the most of what our region has to offer.”
Tickets are subject to availability and are valid on selected services, so customers are advised to book early to secure the best deals.
Part of the sale extends to Transpennine Express (TPE) routes which are valid between Sunday, January 19 and Monday, March 31, 2026.
Across the TPE network, the discounted fares include journeys such as Edinburgh to Newcastle from £4.20 and Liverpool to Sheffield from £4.70 (subject to availability).
