Watch 'surreal' moment 'about 13' escaped horses roam through Leeds before police help shepherd them home

Drivers and residents of Leeds were left perplexed after “around 13” horses were seen galloping through the city.

The above footage was captured as the horses made their way through Kirkstall on Monday evening (March 6), with resident Stuart Long saying he felt like he was in “a fever dream”.

The horses then went on to Headingley before police were able to assist in taking them back to the field they had escaped from in Bramley.

Mr Long said it’s believed that the horses escaped from a field by Leeds Bradford Road where they have been “domiciled for a while”.

He said: “Apparently one of them jumped over the fence and then all of the rest jumped with it.”

Mr Long said he called the police after spotting the horses by Kirkstall Leisure Centre. He said: “It was very surreal.

“One minute I was just out and about, and the next a group of horses is casually strolling through the intersection by the leisure centre like they’re on a night out!”

They then went to Headingley via Eden Crescent and Queenswood Drive.

Mr Long said: “The control officer called back and said ‘we’ve just had five other reports’.”

The police and owner of the horses worked together to escort them back to the field, taking them back past Kirkstall Leisure Centre.

Mr Long said: “They looked like a bunch of teenagers getting caught sneaking out past curfew.”

West Yorkshire Police has been approached for a comment.
