16 photos from Harrogate and Knaresborough on the hottest day of 2026 as temperatures soar across Yorkshire

It has been the hottest May day on record

The country has been enjoying itself as the UK marks the hottest May day on record.

In lovely Harrogate and Knaresborough, families, friends and couples went on boat rides along the river and enjoyed picnics as temperatures soared past 30°C.

The weather has been scorching all week and is set to continue into next week, with temperatures set to surpass 30°C in Yorkshire tomorrow as well (Tuesday).

Our photographer Gerard Binks was in Harrogate and Knaresborough this afternoon to capture some pictures of people making the most of the sweltering heat.
