Leeds braces for wintry week with sub-zero nights forecast - will it snow?

It’s turning much colder in Leeds this week - but will it snow?

Leeds is set for a distinctly chilly week, with temperatures refusing to climb above the single digits as an early winter chill grips the region.

Forecasters confirm that the maximum temperature will remain stubbornly below 10°C for the entire period between November 17 and 23, giving Leeds its first taste of winter.

Met Office meteorologist Honor Criswick said: “It’s certainly going to feel today as if winter has come early. The good news is that it should be mostly dry and bright for many of us.”

The week kicks off with a high of 8°C on Monday, dipping slightly to 7°C on Tuesday. However, the true cold front hits mid-week, with maximum temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday plummeting to just 5°C.

Overnight lows will be especially bitter, dropping into sub-zero territory with the mercury hitting -1°C on both Wednesday and Thursday nights, bringing a hard frost across the city.

The persistently cold air mass means that any precipitation could turn wintry. With low temperatures and periods of light showers expected mid-week, the Met Office has warned that locals could see a flurry of wintry showers or even a light dusting of snow over the higher ground.

Friday and the weekend will offer a slight, albeit minimal, recovery, with highs of 6°C on Friday and Saturday, and 7°C on Sunday. Despite the overcast skies, the main message is clear: the first proper cold snap of the season has arrived.

Met Office weather forecast for November 17 to November 23, 2026:

  • Monday, November 17: Mostly dry and bright, highest temperature 8°C.
  • Tuesday, November 18: Highest temperature 7°C.
  • Wednesday, November 19: Light showers, highest temperature 5°C, with an overnight low of -1°C.
  • Thursday, November 20: Light showers, highest temperature 5°C, with an overnight low of -1°C.
  • Friday, November 21: Highest temperature 6°C.
