Leeds weather: Met Office predicts hottest day of the year so far in latest forecast

Leeds is set to bask in the hottest day of the year so far this weekend, according to the latest forecast.

The Met Office is predicting that temperatures will start to climb over the coming days, after a freezing start to the week. A yellow weather warning for ice was in place overnight from yesterday (February 16) to this morning (February 17).

However, the outlook heading into the back half of the week is looking much more promising. Forecasters are predicting that it could get as warm as 13C in the near future.

The chilly weather will first continue to bite, with temperatures set to hover around freezing at the lowest over the next 48 hours. In its latest forecast, the Met Office also predicts that the grey, overcast skies will be sticking around as well.

Looking ahead to the weekend, the outlook is much more promising with the mercury set to climb from Friday (February 20). In between light rain showers, it will reach as warm as 9C.

But that will not be the end of the warmer spell, with temperatures currently projected to reach into double digits from Saturday (February 21). It is also projected to reach highs of 13C on Sunday (February 22), which would make it the hottest day of the year so far.

In its outlook from the end of the week, the Met Office adds: “It will like be relatively mild overall, though some occasional colder spells are possible, particularly in the north.

“Around the turn of the month, there is a signal that high pressure will become more dominant, meaning more in the way of dry weather developing.”

However, heading into March, the situation is more uncertain. The forecaster explains: “This period may start of predominantly settled, with high pressure close by to the UK. However the orientation of any anticyclone and its location relative to the UK is much more uncertain, which has knock-on effects on the type of weather we can expect.

“Towards mid March, there are indications that more generally changeable conditions of Atlantic origin may develop once more, with a return to spells of wind and rain at times.”

According to Time and Date, the warmest day in the UK so far came on January 11, when it reached 9C. If the current forecast remains on course, the weekend will smash that previous record.
