Leeds Bank Holiday forecast as rain on the way - hour-by-hour forecast for the rest of the weekend

Will the golden weather hold out in Leeds for the remainder of the May Bank Holiday weekend?

It’s been a gloriously warm couple of days in the city this week, and with May Bank Holiday weekend under full swing, then for many stuck behind an office desk today (me included), there is a hope that the golden weather continues.

But sadly, those of us free for the rest of the weekend will have to keep a close eye on the skies, as the city prepares for a weekend of contrasting conditions.

According to the latest forecast by the Met Office, the atmosphere in Leeds will begin to shift significantly as the sun goes down tonight. Cloud cover is expected to thicken throughout the evening, acting as a precursor to a band of heavy rain.

While the day has felt balmy, the dry spell is set for an abrupt end, with light showers beginning as early as 8pm before turning into a torrential downpour by late evening.

Sunday is currently shaping up to be a total washout for West Yorkshire. Forecasters are predicting a relentless stretch of heavy rain throughout the early hours and much of the morning, with temperatures struggling to rise much above a cool 11°c.

With a persistent risk of thundery bursts as an area of low pressure moves directly over the region, any outdoor plans for Sunday should definitely be traded for a Plan B involving sturdy indoor cover.

The holiday should at least end on a brighter note, with Monday expected to see the worst of the weather clear away, leaving behind a much more manageable mix of sunny intervals and cloudy spells. Temperatures are forecast to recover to a respectable 16°C by late afternoon, offering a final window to escape the desk and salvage the last of the long weekend.
