West Yorkshire flooding expected in Calder valley tonight as river levels rise due to Storm Francis

A new urgent flood warning has been issued by the government in West Yorkshire as Storm Francis wreaks havoc.

River levels have risen in the Calder Catchment as a result of the heavy rainfall from Storm Francis, the flood service said.

Consequently, flooding of roads and low-lying land is possible between 5pm tonight and 4am tomorrow morning.

Further rainfall is expected until the early hours of tomorrow according to the service.

"We are closely monitoring the situation.

"Our incident response staff are checking defences.

"Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses."

The warning comes as a similar message was issued for Bridlington seafront.
