Wetherby couple celebrate their 100th birthdays together

Rita Bradbury (nee Fenwick) was born in Durham where she lived before moving to Yorkshire with her parents before the second world war.

During the war she served in the WRENS and was stationed in Grimsby where she worked with colleagues who spotted German 'U' boats. She also trained in Windsor where she saw princeese Elizabeth and Margaret performing in a pantomine well before the coronation - and has the programme to prove it.

Arnold was posted to Southern India, where he worked as an aircraft technician for the Fleet Air Arm.

Rita met Arnold in Leeds and they married at St.Johns Church, Moortown in 1948. They bought their first home in Moortown then moved to Alwoodley where they had two boys, Michael and Peter, both of whom were at their birthday party party.

When Arnold retired and the children grew up and left home the couple moved to a retirement bungalow in Collingham on the banks of the River Wharf. They spent many happy years there unti they decided to move into Wetherby Manor in 2015. They have lived at the home ever since where they are extremely well cared for.

They married in 1948 so have been together for over 76 years. Arnold worked for Associated Dairies as an accountant and lived in Alwoodley until he retired to Collingham.

The couple have two sons, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In 2015 they moved into an apartment in Wetherby Manor Care Home, where they are well looked after.
