A major social media network has been hit by outages this afternoon. Thousands of people have reported problems with X (formerly Twitter) in the last hour.
Downdetector has seen a huge spike in users flooding to highlight issues today (January 13). The troubles were first reported just before 2pm UK time but have spiked since.
According to the website, the issues are affecting the app, website, and users feed. At the time of writing (2.30pm GMT), this reporter is unable to refresh his timeline.
However, services may have started to return to normal as of 2.50pm. The X app and website both appear to be working - although troubles continue to be logged on DownDetector.
X was renamed from Twitter after being taken over by Elon Musk. The tech entrepreneur and one of the world’s richest people purchased the social media platform in 2023.
He announced the name change to X in July of that year as part of his aim to make it an everything app. It has a well-used AI feature known as Grok.
