Disposal of Land at St George’s Road, Middleton

Leeds City Council is proposing to lease land at St George’s Road in Middleton to a local football club for 25 years.

The land would be used for three football pitches and a clubhouse in connection with the club’s sporting and community activities.

The council says the site will remain public open space and continue to be available for recreational use by the community and wider public during the lease, subject to the terms of the agreement.

The council is inviting objections to the proposed disposal, which must be made in writing by October 7, 2026.

Savers in Leeds city centre applies for alcohol licence

Savers Health and Beauty Ltd has applied for a premises licence for its store at Unit 5A, Lower Mall, St Johns Centre, 110-118 Albion Street, Leeds.

The application seeks permission to sell alcohol for consumption off the premises only.

The proposed hours for alcohol sales are 7am to 8pm from Monday to Friday and 9am to 5pm on Sundays.

Written representations about the application can be made to Leeds City Council's Entertainment Licensing section until October 20, 2026.

Road closures and traffic changes across Leeds

A number of traffic orders have been published covering areas including Farnley and Wortley, Weetwood, Ardsley and Robinhood and Westgate.

In Farnley and Wortley, Cross Lane will be closed between Tong Road and Upper Wortley Road because of carriageway resurfacing and kerb reconstruction works.

A diversion will be in place via Upper Wortley Road and Tong Road. The works are expected to be completed by October 2, although the order will remain in force for up to 18 months or until the works are finished.

In Weetwood, proposed changes would introduce no waiting at any time restrictions on sections of Wood Lane, Brookfield Road and Back Oakfield Terrace.

Further proposed changes in Ardsley and Robinhood include no waiting restrictions at the junction of Long Thorpe Lane and the A61 Leeds Road, alongside a proposed prohibited left turn from the southbound A61 Leeds Road into Carlton Lane.

There are also proposed waiting and loading restrictions on parts of Burley Street, Park Lane, Hanover Way, Marlborough Street and Park Square West as part of the Westgate Connecter works, with the carriageway being narrowed to accommodate new cycle infrastructure and improved pedestrian facilities.

Objections to the various proposed traffic orders can be made to Leeds City Council by the relevant deadlines, including October 5 and October 15.
