The e.l.f affordable foundation I’m considering as matte makeup starts to feel too drying.

I’ve always reached for a matte foundation, but as my skin has changed with age, I’m starting to realise that completely matte isn’t necessarily what I want anymore. I have combination skin, so finding a foundation that can deal with a little shine while still leaving my skin looking fresh is a bit of a balancing act. Lately, I’ve noticed that some of my old favourite matte formulas can look too dry and seem to settle into the fine lines around my face.

The e.l.f Soft Satin Glam Finish Foundation £9, is the affordable makeup product everyone’s talking about right now. Rather than a flat matte finish, the e.l.f Soft Satin Glam Finish Foundation is designed to give medium, buildable coverage with a satin finish. That sounds like a good balance for me. I still want enough coverage to even out my skin, but I don’t want my foundation to look heavy or emphasise areas where my skin is naturally becoming a little drier.

The formula is described as breathable, with a finish designed not to look or feel cakey. It also contains 1% Hydrating Hibiscus Complex alongside pomegranate, blueberry and goji berry extracts. Hydration is particularly appealing to me because I’ve found that my skin seems less forgiving of very mattifying products than it used to be. The satin finish foundation is made for dry, oily and combination skin, so it could be worth considering if, like me, you sit somewhere in between.

Satin foundation such as e.l.f. Soft Glam Satin Foundation, offers a middle-ground finish for anyone searching for a more natural-looking everyday make-up base.placeholder image

Another thing that makes the £9 price point interesting is the shade range. There are 36 shades available, and e.l.f also has its Shade Match Guarantee, which is designed to help customers find a suitable match. The coverage is also buildable, which is something I prefer for everyday makeup. I haven’t tried the e.l.f Soft Satin Glam Finish Foundation yet, but it’s definitely gone onto my list to try. At £9, it feels like a relatively easy way to experiment with a different finish without spending a fortune on a high-end foundation.

For anyone with combination skin who has also found that matte foundation is becoming a little too drying, the e.l.f foundation could be one to look out for. If you specifically love a very matte, full-coverage base, the satin finish may not be the best finish for you. However, I’m ready to move away from overly matte foundation, and the e.l.f Soft Satin Glam Finish looks like an affordable place to start.
