Why I’m swapping my normal matte base makeup for this e.l.f Soft Glam Satin Foundation.

I’ve worn matte foundation for years. It was always my go-to when I wanted my makeup to stay put, but as my skin and makeup preferences have changed, I’ve found myself reaching for something much softer.

I want my foundation to enhance my skin rather than mask it. I still want coverage, but I don’t necessarily want a completely flat, matte finish. That’s why e.l.f’s Soft Glam Satin Foundation has caught my eye.

It offers medium, buildable coverage with a satin finish, which feels much more in line with the way I want my makeup to look now. It’s also described as lightweight and breathable, with 1% Hydrating Hibiscus Complex and a choice of 36 shades.

Foundation mistakes to avoid

One of the biggest mistakes when applying foundation is simply using too much. I’ve definitely been guilty of thinking that adding more foundation will automatically give me a better finish, when often the opposite is true. Starting with a thin layer and adding a little more only where you actually need it can leave the skin looking much more natural.

Another mistake is skipping skin prep. Even the best foundation can struggle if your skin is very dry or dehydrated underneath. I prefer to give my skincare a little time to settle before applying makeup rather than immediately piling foundation on top.

Shade choice is another easy one to get wrong. It’s not just about finding a colour that looks close in the bottle. Undertone matters too, which is why e.l.f offers Soft Glam Satin Foundation across cool, neutral and warm undertones within its 36-shade range.

That’s ultimately why e.l.f Soft Glam Satin Foundation appeals to me. After years of choosing matte formulas, I’m much more interested in a softer base that gives me coverage without making my skin look completely flat.
